Devil in a Woodpile's new Bloodshot Records release,
In Your Lonesome Town, is out now. It can be
purchased through www.bloodshotrecords.com or at your
local record store.
The CD features 12 tunes recorded at Steve Albini's
Electrical Audio in Chicago. It was recorded and
mixed the old-fashioned way – sans computer – by hi-fi
guru Mark Haines of Madison, Wisconsin. Stuck in
Electrical's Studio B for three sweaty days in June,
the band was forced to record an analog crisis
intervention. "In Your Lonesome Town" was tracked
entirely live with the exception of a jug overdub on
"Stovepipe Blues" and a Hawaiian steel overdub on Fats
Waller's "Louisiana Fairytale." Without isolation
booths, headphones, click-tracks or other trappings of
the modern studio, the recording process helped the
band capture the live feel of their weekly acoustic
set at the Hideout.
In Your Lonesome Town features:
Rick Cookin' Sherry: vocals, harmonica, washboard,
clarinet, jug, kick drum
Tom V. Ray: upright bass
Joel Paterson: guitar, vocals, kazoo
Gary Schepers: tuba (tracks 5, 8)
